Miriama Young composes for voice, instruments and electronics, and her music moves freely between media.
Much of her work playfully glides and elides distinctions of musical genre. Some projects involve interdisciplinary collaboration, and include works for radio, spoken poetry projects, and interactive electro-acoustic music for dance. She composes
songs for her voice, and these feature on her forthcoming
album.
As scholar, Singing the Body Electric: The Recorded Voice, the Mediated
Body examines the human voice, the mediated body, and the
sound of its transformation through technology.
Miriama is a Lecturer in Music at the University of Aberdeen,
Scotland, UK. Originally from New Zealand, Miriama studied at Victoria University of Wellington, pursued graduate work in the United States on a Fulbright Award, and
gained her PhD in Music Composition at Princeton University (2007).
